Thread splitter

Paste a long text and split it into posts that fit Bluesky, X, Threads, Mastodon or Nostr. It runs in your browser; nothing is sent or saved.

Counts graphemes, so an emoji or a flag is 1.

Paste text to split it into posts.

How to use the thread splitter

    1. Paste your text. Keep blank lines between paragraphs; the splitter prefers to start a new post at a paragraph.
    2. Pick the network. The longest post starts at that network’s limit, and you can set it lower to leave room for a link or a hashtag.
    3. Leave Add 1/n numbering on to end each post with its place in the thread, such as 2/5.
    4. Copy each post, or copy them all, and paste them into your thread.

Counts are planning estimates that follow the same rules as the caption checker. Each network validates the final post, so check the thread in the composer before it goes out.

    Questions

How does the thread splitter decide where to break?
It fills each post with whole sentences. A sentence that is too long on its own is broken between words, and a single word longer than a post, such as a very long link, is broken between characters. When a new paragraph will not fit in the post that is already half full, the next post starts with that paragraph.
Does the 1/n numbering count toward the limit?
Yes. The splitter keeps room for the numbering in every post, so each numbered post still fits the limit you chose. A text that fits in one post is not numbered.
Why does the same text make more posts on X than on Mastodon?
Each network counts differently. X allows 280 and weights many characters and emoji as 2, Bluesky allows 300 graphemes, and Threads and Mastodon allow 500. The counts follow the planning rules in the character limits guide.
    Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The splitter runs in your browser. Nothing you paste is uploaded or saved.
