How to post to WordPress from Claude Code
- Add PostDelegate to Claude Code. Add the PostDelegate MCP server with the command below. Run /mcp inside Claude Code and authenticate the postdelegate server. Your browser opens to sign in.
Terminal
claude mcp add postdelegate --transport http "https://app.postdelegate.com/mcp-oauth-dynamic" - Connect WordPress in PostDelegate. In WordPress open Users, Profile, Application Passwords and create one for a user who is allowed to create posts. Some hosts and security plugins turn application passwords off.
- Ask Claude Code for a draft. Describe the post in plain words. Claude Code checks your WordPress channel's rules, creates the post and sends back a preview link.
Teach Claude Code the posting rules
Save the PostDelegate skill to ~/.claude/skills/postdelegate/SKILL.md. Call it with /postdelegate, or just ask for a post and Claude Code loads it. Agent files has the steps.
What to ask Claude Code
Mention any WordPress setting in plain words and Claude Code fills it in. Claude Code can also read text files in your project, such as a changelog or a draft in Markdown.
- Draft a WordPress post in the News category with the tags launch and product, and the featured image from my media library.
- Schedule this as a WordPress page, status Publish, for Monday at 9:00.
- Turn content/case-study.md into a WordPress post as a Draft status, with categories loaded from my site.
What Claude Code can do on your WordPress channel
- Check the rules first. Before writing, it reads your WordPress channel's length limit and required settings.
- Draft, schedule or post. It creates a draft, a scheduled post or an immediate post, and runs the same checks as the app.
- Use your media. It attaches files from your media library or adds one from a public link.
- Review and fix. It lists what is scheduled, changes the WordPress settings of a post that has not gone out, and deletes posts you no longer want.
PostDelegate talks to your site through the WordPress REST API with an application password, a built-in WordPress feature. Your login password is never used. The post type, status, categories and tags are loaded from your own site, so you choose from what actually exists there.

Before you start
- The site must be reachable from the internet with the REST API turned on, and the user needs a role that can create posts.
- A security plugin or server setting that blocks the REST API or strips the Authorization header makes WordPress reject the login.
The WordPress channel guide has every field, and MCP tools lists exactly what an assistant can and cannot do.
