Codex drafts it. You approve it. PostDelegate posts it.Discord: Markdown messages, images and videos to the channel you pick.
How to post to Discord from Codex
- Add PostDelegate to Codex. Add the server to ~/.codex/config.toml as below. Run codex mcp login postdelegate and sign in in your browser.
~/.codex/config.toml
[mcp_servers.postdelegate] url = "https://app.postdelegate.com/mcp-oauth-dynamic" - Connect Discord in PostDelegate. On the calendar page choose Add Channel, then Discord. Choose the server and approve. You need the Manage Server permission there. The bot is allowed to send messages, create threads and send messages in threads.
- Ask Codex for a draft. Describe the post in plain words. Codex checks your Discord channel's rules, creates the post and sends back a preview link.
Teach Codex the posting rules
Add PostDelegate’s AGENTS.md to your repository, so Codex knows the MCP tools, the REST API and the safety rules when it works there. Agent files has the steps.
What to ask Codex
Mention any Discord setting in plain words and Codex fills it in. Codex can also read text files in your project, such as a changelog or a draft in Markdown.
- Draft an announcement for our Discord #announcements channel about the new feature, under 1,980 characters, using a heading and a bullet list.
- Which Discord channels can PostDelegate post to? Schedule “Office hours start in 10 minutes” in the community one at 14:50.
- Announce v2.4 in #announcements with the top three changes from CHANGELOG.md, saved as a draft for me to approve.
What Codex can do on your Discord channel
- Check the rules first. Before writing, it reads your Discord channel's length limit (1,980 characters) and required settings.
- Draft, schedule or post. It creates a draft, a scheduled post or an immediate post, and runs the same checks as the app.
- Use your media. It attaches files from your media library or adds one from a public link.
- Review and fix. It lists what is scheduled, changes the Discord settings of a post that has not gone out, and deletes posts you no longer want.
Discord servers run on announcements: patch notes, event reminders, stream alerts and the weekly community call. PostDelegate sends each scheduled post as a message from its bot to the channel you choose, so the announcement goes out on time without anyone online to press send.

| Setting | Notes |
|---|---|
| Channel | Required. Choose a text or announcement channel in the server. Forum channels show in the list but cannot take messages. |
| Text | Up to 1,980 characters, with bold, underline, headings, bullet lists and links kept as Discord Markdown. |
| Attachments | Images or videos, uploaded as files with the message. Discord takes up to 10 files per message. |
Before you start
- Private channels need the bot added in Discord, with permission to view the channel and send messages.
- Messages are sent from the PostDelegate bot, not your own Discord account.
The Discord channel guide has every field, and MCP tools lists exactly what an assistant can and cannot do.
