Codex + Google Business Profile

Post to Google Business Profile from Codex

Connect Codex to PostDelegate once, then ask it for Google Business Profile posts from the Codex CLI or IDE extension. Ask for a draft and it waits on your calendar until you schedule it.

Codex drafts it. You approve it. PostDelegate posts it.Google Business Profile: Updates, events and offers for a business location, with an optional image.

How to post to Google Business Profile from Codex

  1. Add PostDelegate to Codex. Add the server to ~/.codex/config.toml as below. Run codex mcp login postdelegate and sign in in your browser.

    ~/.codex/config.toml

    [mcp_servers.postdelegate]
    url = "https://app.postdelegate.com/mcp-oauth-dynamic"
  2. Connect Google Business Profile in PostDelegate. On the calendar page choose Add Channel, then Google My Business. Sign in with the Google account that manages the Business Profile and approve the permissions PostDelegate asks for: your basic profile and email address, and managing your Business Profile.
  3. Ask Codex for a draft. Describe the post in plain words. Codex checks your Google Business Profile channel's rules, creates the post and sends back a preview link.

Teach Codex the posting rules

Add PostDelegate’s AGENTS.md to your repository, so Codex knows the MCP tools, the REST API and the safety rules when it works there. Agent files has the steps.

What to ask Codex

Mention any Google Business Profile setting in plain words and Codex fills it in. Codex can also read text files in your project, such as a changelog or a draft in Markdown.

  • Draft a Google Business Profile offer for our weekend sale: 20% off, Saturday to Sunday, with a Shop button linking to example.com/sale.
  • Create an event post for our open day on the 14th from 10:00 to 16:00 and schedule it for Monday morning.
  • Write a standard update from the opening hours in content/hours.md with a Learn More button linking to our website, as a draft.

What Codex can do on your Google Business Profile channel

  • Check the rules first. Before writing, it reads your Google Business Profile channel's length limit (1,500 characters) and required settings.
  • Draft, schedule or post. It creates a draft, a scheduled post or an immediate post, and runs the same checks as the app.
  • Use your media. It attaches files from your media library or adds one from a public link.
  • Review and fix. It lists what is scheduled, changes the Google Business Profile settings of a post that has not gone out, and deletes posts you no longer want.

A Google Business Profile post is up to 1,500 characters with one optional image. Pick a standard update, an event with a title and dates, or an offer with a title and dates, plus an optional coupon code, redeem link and terms. Add an optional button, such as Book or Learn more, that opens a link you choose, or Call (uses your business phone number). Videos are not supported.

Before you start

  • Google only accepts posts for verified locations that the Google account you sign in with manages. Signing in to PostDelegate with Google does not connect a Business Profile.
  • Each location gets at most one image per post. Videos are not supported, and extra entries in a post are not published.

The Google Business Profile channel guide has every field, and MCP tools lists exactly what an assistant can and cannot do.

Questions

Will Codex publish to Google Business Profile without asking me?
Not unless you ask it to. Ask for a draft and the post waits on your calendar until you schedule it, and your workspace's approvals apply as usual. Tools that change data are marked as such, so Codex can ask you before it schedules or deletes anything.
Do I need an API key to connect Codex?
No. Codex signs in with your PostDelegate account through your browser. An API key is only for clients that cannot sign in, as described in MCP clients.
Does it cost extra to use Codex with PostDelegate?
No. The MCP server is on every plan, and Codex runs on your own Codex account, so PostDelegate never charges for AI. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial with no card.
Can Codex attach images or video to a Google Business Profile post?
It can use files already in your media library, or add one from a public link. It cannot fetch files from your computer, so upload those in the app first. See MCP tools.
Can I connect more than one location?
Yes. Each location is its own channel. Choose Add Channel, then Google My Business, once for each location you manage.
Does signing in to PostDelegate with Google connect my Business Profile?
No. Google sign-in only opens your PostDelegate account. Connect the Business Profile from Add Channel.
